Chris was excited to begin gardening in her new abode until she realized the entire yard was filled with English ivy, gooseneck loosestrife, lily of the valley, and vinca. At a snail's pace, she has been removing the aggressive non-natives and replacing them with fast growing natives. See the progress she has made, learn some of the surprises she has found, and if you're up to it, yank a vine of ivy out. In addition, Chris will show you some of the native gardens that have been installed at Pinewoods Camp, the camp she runs on Long Pond..

Amy Meltzer will give us a presentation entitled, "Gardening For Biodiversity With Native Plants: Providing habitat for pollinators, birds and other essential wildlife".

In this talk, Amy will focus on the current biodiversity crisis; the evolutionary history among native plants, insects, birds and fungi, and how these interdependent relationships among diverse species are necessary for their survival. She will show how growing native plants and using ecological landscape practices can simultaneously reverse biodiversity loss, increase resilience in our landscapes, and slow climate change - all while creating a beautiful garden!

Amy Meltzer is on the steering committee of the Mass Pollinator Network, is an active member of Grow Native Massachusetts, and is on both the Research Team and the Natural Solutions Working Group of Elders Climate Action. She has been researching and growing native plants for over ten years.

This FREE presentation is brought to you in partnership with the Mattakeesett Gardening Club in Pembroke.  All are welcome.  Bring your friends and family!
